About our rugs

Rugs are more than just objects; they are woven stories.

In Morocco, every handmade rug carries the memory of centuries-old traditions, passed down from mothers to daughters.
For Amazigh women, weaving is not only a craft but also a language — a way to express emotions, hopes, and dreams through colors and geometric symbols. Each motif tells a story: protection, fertility, love, connection with nature, and the rhythm of everyday life.

These rugs are born in the heart of villages in the Atlas Mountains and plains, where women gather wool from local sheep, wash it, and spin it by hand. The yarns are often dyed with natural pigments — saffron yellow, henna red, indigo blue, pomegranate skin, or walnut husk — creating a palette that reflects Morocco’s landscapes.
Knot by knot, thread by thread, each rug can take weeks or even months to complete, depending on its size and complexity.

For the women who weave them, rugs are not only a source of livelihood but also a form of identity and expression.
The loom becomes their diary: abstract motifs replace words, and asymmetries become signs of freedom and creativity. Imperfections are celebrated, as they reveal the human hand and the soul behind the work.

Today, Moroccan rugs are admired worldwide for their raw beauty, warmth, and timeless elegance. They connect tradition and modern design, turning every interior into a space filled with history and authenticity. Owning one means embracing not just a piece of décor, but the spirit of a people, the patience of craftsmanship, and the silent voices of generations of women who wove their lives into wool.

At AzaLuna, we honor these women and their heritage by curating unique, authentic rugs that bring both comfort and meaning into homes.
